Spring Migrant Bird Search (Keyhaven)
Location: Meet at the base of Hurst Spit. Drive to the Keyhaven car park opposite the Gun Inn and then continue on the road towards the sea (instead of turning into the car park). the road turns to the right. Continue for a short while and there is ample parking on the right with the sea and estuary on the left.

Date and time: 9am-1pm Sunday 18 April.

A morning exploring the coast looking for spring migrant birds that have just arrived.

We start by having a short sea watch from the base of Hurst Spit to see if any sea birds are passing by. Brent Geese, Scoter, Terns, Divers and Skuas are all possible, but it does depend upon weather conditions on the day. After this we have a walk around Keyhaven Marshes to see what winter waders are still here and what summer migrants have arrived. We hope to see Wheatear, Sandwich Tern and hopefully Yellow Wagtail, Little Ringed Plover, Water Pipit or even Garganey! Waders such as Black-tailed Godwit, Greenshank and Grey Plover may still be here and may be joined by migrant species such as Common Sandpiper.

There are toilet facilities at Keyhaven.

How to book: Please book in advance by contacting Project Fred on 01425 673321 or by emailing project.fred@virgin.net.

Cost: £10.00.

Length of walk: Short, up to 3km on fairly level ground and good paths.

What to bring: Binoculars if you have them. Walking boots will be a good idea.

Whimbrel are arriving back in the UL now and coastal marshes are a good place to look for them.
