Trees and Hawfinches (Rhinefield, Hampshire)
Location: Meet at Blackwater Arboretum car park on Rhinefield Ornamental Drive, SU 267,046. To find this drive from Lyndhurst towards Christchurch on the A35. After about 2 ½ miles you come to a cross roads. Turn left signed to Rhinefield and Brockenhurst. The car park is the first one on the left after about 1 mile.

Date and time: 1pm-4pm Friday 21 November.

If you want to have wonderful views of Hawfinches then join me to watch them as they come here for an hour or so before going off to roost. Siskin, Redpoll and sometimes Crossbill and Brambling are seen here too. Last winter we also saw Lesser-spotted Woodpecker.

We shall have a walk through the tall trees before ending up at the Arboretum to wait for the Hawfinches. The trees were planted in the late 1800s and include some very tall Redwoods and other exotic conifers.

Car parking is free.

There are toilets at the car park here.

How to book: Please book in advance by contacting Project Fred on 01425 673321 or by emailing project.fred@virgin.net.

Cost: £6.

Length of walk: Short, about 2km along fairly level gravel tracks.

What to bring: Binoculars if you have them.

The Hawfinches come in to roost and can be seen in the tree tops. We often see Siskin and sometimes, Crossbill and Brambling.
