Winter birds at Calshot (Calshot, New Forest)
Location: Meet at Calshot car park at SU 479,014. This is free in the winter. It is the first car park you come to as you drive past Calshot heading towards the sea.

Date and time: 1pm-4pm Saturday 15 November.

Join me on this walk around Calshot to get to grips with those wintering wildfowl and waders. Can you tell a Teal from a Wigeon? Would you spot a Bar-tailed Godwit amongst the Redshanks? This circular walk will take in the muddy shoreline at Calshot which is often great for waders and wildfowl. Scarcer birds can often be seen here too. Black Redstarts frequently winter around the Power Station fences, Mediterranean Gulls use the mudflats and sometimes scarce grebes or divers can be seen on the sea. There are toilets at the car park.

How to book: Please book in advance by contacting Project Fred on 01425 673321 or by emailing project.fred@virgin.net.

Cost: £6.

Length of walk: Medium, 4 km on fairly level ground with a few boggy spots and a stile to climb over.

What to bring: Binoculars if you have them.
