Wilverley and the Naked Man (Wilverley Plain, New Forest)
Location: Meet at Wilverley Plain car park. SU 254,011. This is the fairly large car park beside Wilverley Inclosure. It is off the road between Holmsley and Brockenhurst.

Date and time: 10am-1pm Sunday 2 November.

A winter walk around this lovely area of heath.

Although Wilverley Plain is much visited by people the paths exploring the local valleys are much less busy and it feels quite remote and quiet up here. The Forest can be very quiet for birds in the winter, but this area has held a Great Grey Shrike over the past two winters so we may be lucky. There is always the chance of Hen Harrier, Ravens or Crossbill and there may be Redwings and Fieldfare on the grassy plain.

There are toilets close to the car park.

How to book: Please book in advance by contacting Project Fred on 01425 673321 or by emailing project.fred@virgin.net.

Cost: £6.

Length of walk: Medium, 4 km on fairly level ground that may be wet in places.

What to bring: Binoculars if you have them.

Several Great Grey Shrike winter on the New Forest each winter. Will we catch up with one on this walk?
