Normandy migrants (Lymington, Hampshire)
Location: Meet at Bath Road Amenity car park, Lyminton at SZ 334,951. To find this from Lymington take the road towards Christchurch. From the roundabout with the petrol station on, follow signs to Riverside Marinas. Follow the road to the next roundabout where you turn right, still following signs to Riverside Marinas. Pass the Mayflower pub on your right and the car park is on the right as the road bears left. You can park for free by following the road round a little and parking in Solvent Avenue.

Date and time: 10am-1pm Friday 10 October.

A walk around the coastal lagoons and fields of Normandy Marsh, just outside Lymington.

The coastal path near Lymington has lagoons on one side and mudflats on the other and so attracts a great variety of wildlife, especially waders and wildfowl. This area is known as Normandy Marsh and usually holds most of the commoner waders and ducks to be found on the south coast.

Curlew, Redshank, Black-tailed Godwit, Dunlin and Grey Plover should all be seen and Spotted Redshank often winters here too. A great chance to learn your waders and wildfowl instead of Christmas shopping!

There are toilet facilities in the car park.

How to book: Please book in advance by contacting Project Fred on 01425 673321 or by emailing project.fred@virgin.net.

Cost: £6.

Length of walk: Medium, about 4km on fairly level paths that can get a bit muddy.

What to bring: Binoculars if you have them.

Whimbrel are not uncommon in coastal areas at this time of year. We could see other waders such as Little Stint and Curlew Sandpiper.
