Fieldfares again - 12th November
« on: November 14, 2006, 10:21:30 PM »

Saw another flock of Fieldfares flying over Stag Brake just west of Burley in the New Forest chuckling as they went.  Not seen many of them yet this autumn, anyone else?
Loads of Redwings on the Forest at the mo.  Other birds seen were Robins, Blackbirds, Chaffinches, Blue & Great Tits, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Wrens, Mistle Thrushes, Nuthatch, Meadow Pipit, Stonechat & Dartford Warbler.
Went & had a look at the Juniper that is in this area (only one on the Forest as far as I know) & also found some Aspen which isn't common on the Forest either.
Also saw some Fallow deer (does & a buck) laying up in the Gorse, 2 Fallow does & a fawn by Mill Lawn Brook, Roe doe & kid, Broad Buckler ferns, Golden Male ferns, Hard fern, False Death caps, Sulphur Tufts, Giant Flame caps, Blackening Russula, loads of Hedgehog mushrooms, 1 lone Daisy in flower & 3 Ticks crawling up my hand!

I think the weather is not cold enough to have pushed the Fieldfares down from farther north. Hopefully more will arrive as the winter draws in (if it does). There are quite a lot of Redwings on the Forest though.
