Osprey at Keyhaven Harbour
« on: September 30, 2006, 06:12:35 PM »

Saturday 30th September.        Osprey seen perched on a post and then stretching its wings before flying around and diving for about five minutes. Very spectacular!!

Black-necked Grebe also seen on lake near car park (courtesy of nearby expert with huge telescope). Whimbrel and Greenshank seen on marshes. Otherwise it was the usual suspects.

It would be very worth while anyone going to Keyhaven tomorrow to see if the Osprey is still there as they often hang around for a day or two. Please let us know if you see it.
There have been one or two Ospreys about in the past few weeks and they should continue to pass through for the next few weeks. Keep your eyes peeled at coastal sites and inland reservoirs. Oddly enough, Ospreys look surprisingly like large brown gulls in the way that they fly, so check all large brown gulls that you see - you never know!
Black-necked Grebe is a good sighting too.
