I will try and keep you all posted on what migrants are coming in. If you have a spare morning and live near the coast it is well worth getting up early and seeing what is around. You ought to see Wheatears and Swallows etc coming in, but you may be lucky and find an Osprey or a Garganey or, dare I say it, a Ring Ouzel.
2nd April - the north winds have been holding things back to a greater extent. Only a few Chiffchaffs and Wheatears in recently, but there was a Garganey at Stanpit on 1st April. Chiffchaffs seem to be singing in many places now. The wind direction is not set to change tomorrow, so not much is likely to happen.
5th April - continued lovely sunny settled weather is great for the Easter weekend, but means that most migrants are still passing straight over and not stopping at the coast. A few more Wheatears are about (6 at Hengistbury and 50 at Portland yesterday) and some Swallows, Willow Warblers and Redstarts are trickling in. There is still Garganey and Little-ringed Plover at Lodmoor for those of you near Weymouth. Testwood Lakes ought to be getting their Little-ringed Plovers back any day now. Butterflies are being seen more - Brimstone, Peacock, Speckled Woods, Holly Blue and Small Copper.

Testwood Lakes did have 2 Little Ringed Plovers 2 weeks ago but they haven't been reported since. They could still be around, or could have just been passing through. Have you checked for them?

There have been high numbers of Willow Warblers coming in with a few of the scarcer migrants such as Ring Ousel, Grasshopper Warbler, Whitethroat, Black Redstart, Redstart and a Cuckoo. Hengistbury Head also had a Little Bunting on Sunday morning. I went there in the afternoon, but just saw millions upon millions of humans!!! Any mornings which start off misty or drizzly can be very good for migrants grounded by the weather early in the morning, so get down to the coast if you can during those mornings.
12th April. Two Ospreys over Portland Bill today. Also Grasshopper Warblers have been at Portland and Hengistbury, while there have been several Ring Ouzel in both places too. Whimbrel, Whitethroat and Yellow Wagtail are startinmg to arrive and Swallows and House Martin are starting to come in, in high numbers now.

Migrants are really coming in now. Willow Warblers, Blackcaps and Chiffchaff are singing everywhere. Redstarts are singing in the New Forest woods. Swallows and House Martins are in the air over the countryside. Yellow Wagtails, Grasshopper Warblers, Whitethroats and Lesser Whitethroats have been conming in as well as Pied Flycatchers. The first Swifts, Turtle Doves and Spotted Flycatchers have also been seen. Simon Curson
