Woodlarks and butterflies - 26th Feb
« on: February 26, 2007, 03:30:14 PM »

Went out on Dur Hill Down (just SW of Burley) this morning at about 10am. The sunny mild weather is getting the birds singing. Several Stonechats singing and 1 Woodlark. In areas of the Forest with open grassland it is worth listening and looking out for Woodlarks from now on.
Also saw 1 Red Admiral - anyone seen any other species of butterfly?

Heard 4 displaying Woodlarks around Sloden Inclosure, & Pitts Wood Inclosure & out to Little Cockley Plain.  Also singing were Dartford Warblers, Stonechats, Meadow Pipits on the heath.

No other species of butterflies yet I'm arfaid.
