A Motley Crew (Derek & Lyz, Tracy & son Tom, Heather and John & Diana) met at Keyhaven on Xmas Day and enjoyed a very pleasant morning walk before adjourning to The Gunn for refreshment. Brent geese and Little Grebes were out in force and, in total, 37 different species were sighted - thanks, of course, to the identifying skills we all aquired during our walks with Project Fred throughout the year.
Notable sightings were Red-breasted Merganser (in abundance), Snipe, Avocet, Rock Pippit and Gadwell. But where were the sparrows, starlings and chaffinches that would have brought the total to 40? Even the birds of prey were at home tucking into turkey.
