Amberley and Waltham through the seasons (Pulborough, West Sussex)
Location: Meet at Amberley Church Hall, Amberley at SU 028,131.

Date and time: 10am-4pm Thursday 11 February.

Become more familiar with these two great wetland reserves through the year. Discover the changing wildlife and learn what you can expect to see and how to identify it, from birds and flowers to grasshoppers and dragonflies.

Today we shall focus will be on the birds to be found here. The flood meadows can hold many wintering wildfowl, the most common being Wigeon. However it is really the more special birds that we are hoping to catch up with today. Bewicks Swan winter in the Arun valley and are often seen at Amberley Wildbrooks. Peregrine and Short-eared Owl are often seen quartering the fields searching for prey. Later in the afternoon at Waltham Brooks, Barn Owl are often seen starting their nightly hunt for rodents.

Length of walks: Medium, about 4km.

What to bring: Notebook and pen. The paths here can be very wet and muddy and wellies will definitely be needed. There are areas of boardwalk and uneven path and care is needed when walking here. Please also bring your own packed lunch.
